112KW Net Metered Solar Installaion in richmond Hill, ON

Alectric completes installation of 112KW Net Metered Solar PV generation system at Abacus Self Storage in Richmond Hill / plants 112 trees.

Toronto based solar energy provider Alectric has completed a net-metered solar photovoltaic system at Abacus Self Storage, at 25 Colston Ct. in Richmond Hill ON.

The system will generate approximately 120,000 kWh of electricity per year, offsetting approximately 90% of the electricity required by the facility.

In addition, Alectric’s partnership with Tree Canada, the only national non-profit organization dedicated to planting and nurturing trees in rural and urban environments, will see 112 trees planted in a deforested area under its National Greening Program. Alectric pays for the planting of one tree per KW of solar PV it installs, supporting the restoration of the Greater Sudbury area to increase native diversity of species. See /tree-canada/ for details about Alectric’s tree planting program.

The solar electricity generated by Abacus Self Storage will displace 1.6 tons of GHG emissions per year. The trees planted via Tree Canada will displace an increasing amount of GHG emissions as they mature. They will provide a habitat to wildlife and birds in a previously deforested area.

“The investment by Abacus Self Storage in solar power production and in the Tree Canada tree planting program, and thereby in our collective futures, reflects our on-going commitment to the communities we serve. It is only one in a previous series of steps towards reducing and minimizing our carbon footprint. It is also totally consistent with our goal of being a best in class self-storage facility. We will continue our efforts in this direction, as we have over the last 20 plus years that we have been in business”, according to Ernie Loch at Abacus Self Storage.

“Alectric was founded on Earth Day in 2015, and we’ve always been focused on giving back to the community. Our partnership with Tree Canada is part of the commitment we made when we founded the company to leave the world better than we found it. We expect to plant more than 2500 trees by the end of 2020, and that number is going to grow every year,” according to Alan Morrissey, CEO of Alectric.
